In essence, this is a mini capillary table which will keep potted plants watered for up to 14 days. The unit features a base reservoir tray which contains a ?stilted? inner support platform which is covered in capillary matting.
The base tray provides a reservoir of 8 litres of water. By ensuring that compost exposed at the bottom of plant pots is in contact with the capillary matting, the plants will water themselves! Invaluable for keeping plants watered for those going away on holiday. The size of the unit also makes it particularly useful for use in greenhouses.
The base tray and inner support platform are manufactured from recycled plastic - polypropylene and polystyrene respectively.

These self watering trays are really great. Quite robust, I have my 4yr old peach tree in its 40 litre pot standing on one in my greenhouse & even with things growing quickly, & strong sunshine, nothing goes dry and I don't have to water every day. I gave 4 stars rather than 5 because they don't come with perforated polythene to protect the capillary mat, so I've had to add that myself and the notch is on the wrong side for me, my benches are deep so the trays have the short end at the edge & it can be awkward getting at the filling notch when the trays are covered with plants, but the notch is big enough for me to dip my finger in to check the water level and overall I love these trays & would definitely recommend them.
